The City of Carrizo Springs is the county seat of Dimmit County, Texas. The name Carrizo Springs, which is Spanish for a type of cane grass once common in the area, derives from similarly named springs in the area. Carrizo Springs was founded in 1865 by settlers from Atascosa County and is the oldest town in Dimmit County.
